Garth Meckler, MD, MSHS
Garth Meckler is a Pediatric Emergency Physician with a strong academic interest in prehospital education. He obtained his MD from Harvard, trained in Pediatrics at Seattle Children’s Hospital, and Pediatric Emergency Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles where he worked for several years as a member of the Emergency Transport Team. He completed a Masters in Health Services Research at the University of California Los Angeles before becoming faculty at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland Oregon where he was the Program Director of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship and worked with Oregon’s EMS-C Program to develop a novel education curriculum for prehospital providers in rural and remote areas of the state. He has been a co-investigator of two large NIH funded studies related to pediatric prehospital care including the Children’s Safety Initiative which explored the epidemiology of pediatric patient safety in the prehospital setting and a follow-up study of pediatric out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Currently Garth is the Division Head for Pediatric Emergency Medicine at BC Children’s Hospital and an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the University of British Columbia, a pediatric advisor to BCEHS, and an active member of the pediatric committee of CanROC.
